The connection between sesame and Taiwan, in the earliest of times, takes us back to the Japanese colonial period.During that time, due to the lack of oil products, the Japanese government encouraged local farmers to grow sesame to increase oil supply. Since the R.O.C government did not reinforce any encouragement measure after retrocession, sesame crops slowly faded from our farmlands.
Sesame was once economic miracles for our farmers, however was also forced to go into history books. Xigang, is a small district who is witness to the top and bottom of sesame industry. By farming area, its sesame crops account for around 30% of the whole country, on the very top of the list.
Take a small walk into the field beside the village path, the sheaves of sesame are covered with nets which prevents the crops to be eaten by birds, the nets can be removed now. Tarps are laid on the ground, make sure all the tools are well equipped, let the work begin. The place is soon filled with rustling sounds, the sound of rods falling on the crops, the space is instantly filled with dusts, not only the farmers, but the passengers enjoy this sesame storm.
Collect the sesames and filter out the dusts with sieves, fill them into packages and wait for further process. The sesame will go on a journey; to somewhere hopefully enables fully use of its potential. The farmers have only one simple wish: “May everyone in the world knows the best of my sesame”.
To born in one of the sesame farming family, one would feel unfortunate to see the tremendous labor that takes in the harvest of sesames which are only used to make sesame oil or powder. Thus the thoughts of exploring the true potential of sesame and raising its industrial value has started growing in the mind of Mr. Yu-Cheng Chen and his wife.
On the year of 1999, CHIA CHEN BIO ENTERPRISE CO., LTD is established, mainly to produce and sell food ingredients and spices.
Since the year of 2014, after the storming food safety issues in Taiwan, under reporting and play up by the media all over the world, Taiwanese food products had reached its dark age. Under this social influence, Mr. Chen thought of the sesame crop in his home town, recalled his very first dream. Finally, Mr. Sesame is born.
